Amino acids come in many types. Amino acids in a mix, only the Bcaas, amino acids in powder form, amino acids in tablet or capsule and even in shots!
In total there are 20 amino acids that occur in proteins, and these can be distinguished into three different types of amino acids:
- Essential amino acids. These are amino acids that the body cannot produce itself and must therefore be obtained from food and / or food supplements. These are for example in BCAA.
- Semi-essential amino acids. The body can produce these amino acids itself, but this may not be sufficient in some circumstances.
- Non essential amino acids. The body can produce these amino acids itself and does not have to be obtained from food per see.
