The farmer's walk is a real full-body exercise where the traps are central. It also strengthens the entire back muscle. Due to the high weight that you can use in this exercise, it is one of the best exercises for both muscle growth and muscle strength.
- Keep your back straight and tighten your abdominal muscles well to ensure that your body remains stable.
- Some people forget to breathe because you don't have 'normal' repetitions. Does not do this, your muscles need enough oxygen.
The relatively high weight can be at the expense of the implementation. Often people also want to move the weight from point A to point B as quickly as possible instead of having the muscles work as well as possible. Pay close attention to the following points:
- Take every step carefully. So first put your heel down and finally your toes, and keep control of your body.
- Tighten your body, don't just let the weights hang on your arms, but really lift them.
Type of weight
You can use different types of weights at the farmer's walk, such as dumbbells, kettlebells, hex bars, two barbells, and more. Do what you like best, as long as you can keep your arms along your body and you can use a total weight of at least your body weight.
You can also combine the farmer's walk with other compound exercises such as the squat and the deadlift. This gives your muscles an extra shock and increases the intensity of your training even more. Many athletes who want to train the explosiveness do this.
